Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Hiroyuki Ogawa) (hereafter “Komatsu”) will participate in MINExpo INTERNATIONAL 2024 (hereafter “MINExpo”), the world’s largest expo for mining equipment, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, from September 24 to 26, 2024. Under the theme “A Sustainable Future Together”, Komatsu will showcase a variety of its latest products and solutions for automation, remote control and electrification of mining equipment.
The company’s work to accelerate automation and teleoperation of mining equipment to enhance safety and productivity at customer sites will be showcased during the show with a Komatsu D475A-8 and ZT44 surface blasthole drill, both with added features to support teleoperation. In addition, the company will exhibit for the first time its Autonomous Light Vehicle (ALV) concept, designed to work with Komatsu’s industry-leading Autonomous Haulage System (AHS). This concept vehicle is a result of the ongoing development collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation that began last year. To see these technologies in action, a demonstration will be held to remotely operate the bulldozer and surface blasthole drill from Komatsu’s booth at MINExpo, while the machines are located at the company’s Arizona Proving Grounds, more than 650 km away. The demo will include a remote-control seat set up in the venue, as well as a live broadcast of an ALV driving in autonomous mode at the aforementioned test site.

In the area of electrification technology, Komatsu will introduce its first battery-electric powered Load-Haul Dump (LHD), the WX04B, a 4-ton class machine designed specifically for narrow vein underground mining operations. The company will also debut a newly developed charging solution that supports battery operation for the WX04B and other equipment. Other sustainability-focused solutions available for customers to see and learn more about will include Komatsu’s 400-ton class ultra-large tethered electric hydraulic excavator, the PC4000E-11, as well as the latest on advancement of its power agnostic truck offerings, adaptable to a variety of power sources.

Following the close this year of Komatsu’s acquisition of GHH Group GmbH, a manufacturer of underground mining equipment, the company will exhibit LHDs and underground mining dump trucks now branded Komatsu. These latest offerings are part of Komatsu’s focus on expanding its product lineup and market coverage for underground mining hard rock customers.
Mine sites are facing challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) in operations, improving safety and a decreasing availability of skilled operators. In addition, the increasing global demand for resources has led to a shift in mining depth, with a trend toward shifting from surface mining to underground mining.
In response to these challenges and needs, Komatsu is expanding its partnerships to advance mining equipment for surface and underground mining. As an example of this in action, the company will highlight its strategic collaboration agreement with ABB Switzerland Ltd. and General Motors to support a carbon-neutral future.
These solutions and more contribute to Komatsu’s focus on creating DANTOTSU Value, defined as customer value creation that generates a positive cycle of improvement of earnings and ESG targets in Komatsu's mid-term management plan, entitled "DANTOTSU Value - Together, to "The Next" for sustainable growth." Through this, Komatsu strives to create added value for customers while taking steady steps forward to the next stage for the workplace of the future, helping realize the company’s brand promise to create value through manufacturing and technology innovation to empower a sustainable future where people, business, and our planet thrive together.
