Komatsu Reman parts bringing new life to used components

What is Reman?

The word "Reman" refers to remanufacturing and reclamation.
Komatsu's Reman parts business is designed to be recycling-oriented.

We leverage our strengths in the in-house development and production of construction equipment parts to refurbish used equipment components.*
*Components: The parts of a machine that function independently, such as engines.

Components such as engines and transmissions that have previously been in operation on equipment can be remanufactured to mirror an equivalent new part.
Because Komatsu uses the original equipment specifications, assembly processes and test procedures, customers can count on Komatsu remanufactured parts.

In addition to the development and production of construction equipment, Komatsu positions parts as one of its major businesses. The Reman business is an important segment within the parts business.

Two fold objectives of Reman

The first objective is a sustainability challenge.
As we remanufacture components for our customers, we gain more insight into parts durability.
This information is fed back into our development process to help enhance our products.

Reman also enables us to reduce waste, as we melt down unrecyclable parts and metal scraps for reuse. We contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by these practices following the principles of 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle).

The second objective aligns with one of Komatsu's missions: to keep our customers' machines running.
By strategically allocating inventory across our global locations, we are positioned to deliver parts when our customers need them and help control the time spent on machine maintenance.
Komatsu uses Komtrax to monitor the operating status of construction machines to help promote improvements in the accuracy of delivery times.

Komatsu's worldwide Reman operations

Komatsu's Reman business started about 30 years ago in locations that were close to our customers, and we have continued to expand in a way that maintains those close connections.
We have established branches in North America, Europe, Australia, Chile, Indonesia, Japan and other countries to provide high-quality and convenient service.

Our Reman branches in 11 countries around the world not only function independently, but also collaborate closely to share necessary technical information to facilitate consistency in components across regions.

The Oyama Plant in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, functions as one such branch.

The Oyama Plant develops and manufactures key components for construction equipment, such as engines and hydraulics, and supplies them to our production bases around the world.

We remanufacture components using strict standards in state-of-the-art facilities.
Through a series of processes, from initial inspection to final performance testing, we are able to return remanufactured components to conditions that meet like-new quality and performance.
① Receiving inspection

  Receiving inspection

Reman begins with the return of used components, when experts thoroughly inspect them.
② Component cleaning

  Component cleaning

Since the salvaged components are covered with mud, sand, oil and other residue, they are carefully cleaned one by one.
③ Disassembly work / parts inspection

  Disassembly work / parts inspection

We carefully disassemble and inspect each part one by one with skilled techniques.
④ Repair / assembly / inspection

  Repair / assembly / inspection

Disassembled parts are cleaned, repaired and rebuilt to meet like-new conditions.
The assembly process is standardized and monitored on a device. Performance is inspected according to the same standards used for new products.
➄ Painting / shipping

Only components that have passed inspection standards are painted and shipped.

For even better quality and reliability

Quality and reliability are foundations of Komatsu's management principles.
We will continue working to supply products and services that satisfy our customers in all aspects of our business, earning their trust by acting with sincerity, integrity and honesty while pursuing a sustainable future where people, business and our planet thrive together.
And this commitment is exactly the same whether we are developing and producing new products or giving used components new life.

Komatsu does not just make products.
Through our remanufacturing business, we turn used components into like-new components, while striving to connect a consumer-oriented society with a recycling mindset.
